With Mumbai alone reporting 456 new Covid-19 cases, the highest-ever single-day spike, on Friday, Maharashtra’s coronavirus count stood at 4,200. In all, Maharashtra reported 552 new coronavirus cases, the highest in a day, on Sunday.

Of the total 4,200 coronavirus patients in the state, Mumbai has reported 2,724 cases.

The state also reported 12 Covid-19 deaths on Sunday, with which, the toll in the state climbed to 223, health officials said.

According to state health officials, the reason for such a huge rise in numbers is aggressive testing, contact tracing
and the natural course of progression that this disease follows.

“It is still in the growing phase now,” officials said.
