Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb had one message to give to those who are now returning to their home states during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Pls don’t panic, don’t become agitated. Till the spread of Covid-19 does not stop, don’t move from where you are. You are safe there. The moment you move, coronavirus is waiting for you,” he said at e-Agenda Aaj Tak.
Speaking about the steps Tripura has taken to protect itself from the spread of the disease he said, ” We have issued a notification for trucks carrying goods. Samples will be taken from drivers and till the result doesn’t come the truck will not be allowed to enter the state. Even those citizens who come back to the state will be tested, kept in isolation for two days and only be allowed in if their results are negative,” he elaborated.
Maintaining that it is important to check borders to ensure the virus does not reach the state, Deb said, “A Janta curfew will remain imposed on the Bangladesh border till the coronavirus pandemic is fully over.”
Since Tripura has remained largely Covid-19 free, what is the advice Deb would give to other CMs? “I only want to say this to those much more senior than me that make your administrative officials implement the Centre’s guidelines strictly. No laxity should be tolerated in that.”
“If people think you are very strict CM, let them think so. If they get angry, let them be. When this is over people will realise jaan hai toh jahaan hai,” he exclaimed.
On metro cities where people live in closely confined spaces, he said, “Since Delhi and Mumbai have many closely-knit areas, the only solution is to wear masks, stay aware and stay neat and clean and follow AYUSH guidelines for building immunity.”
