Police in Tamil Nadu have rescued a stranded Russian couple from atop the Tiruvannamalai hill when they were spotted by a drone, which the police were using to monitor the hills.
29-year-old Victor and his 28-year-old wife Tatiana were on a spiritual tour in India and got stranded in the country due to the lockdown in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Running short of money, the couple couldn’t pay for food and stay. Speaking to the media, Tiruvannamalai SP Sibi Chakravarty said that the couple was spotted when the police were using a drone to monitor the hill. They had climbed almost three-fourth of the hill and were making their way to the top.
Thiruvannamalai SP said that the couple couldn’t afford food and stay and were making their way to the top of the hill to meditate.
The police have spoken to their landlord who agreed to let them stay for free.
The police have also requested an NGO to consider their situation and provide them with food and other essentials during until they can head back to their country.
