Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named the world’s best airport for the eighth year in a row at the annual Skytrax World Airport Awards.
The World Airport Awards 2020 were announced on Monday and while Changi Airport occupied the first spot on the list, Tokyo Haneda Airport came second. Doha’s Hamad International Airport is on the third spot on the list. The Incheon International Airport in South Korea and Munich Airport in Germany occupied the fourth and fifth spots on the list respectively.
Take a look at the world’s top ten airports of 2020:
1. Singapore Changi Airport
2. Tokyo Haneda Airport
3. Hamad International Airport Doha
4. Incheon International Airport
5. Munich Airport
6. Hong Kong International Airport
7. Narita International Airport
8. Central Japan International Airport
9. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
10. Kansai International Airport
The award ceremony was scheduled for April 1 at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris but the event was cancelled in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. On May 10, however, the awards were announced through a virtual ceremony on YouTube.
“Having deferred the award announcements for nearly six weeks, we felt it was now right to try and bring some cheer into the airport industry in these difficult times,” Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said in a statement, CNN reports.
The Changi Airport is a worldwide favourite especially because of its features including the orchid and butterfly gardens and a rooftop pool. The Jewel Changi Airport, which was inaugurated in April 2019, bolstered its reputation further.
With a glass complex that includes a living rainforest and the Rain Vortex which is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, the Jewel Changi Airport is a sight to behold.
