Kerala: Red zones to remain sealed, restrictions to be partially lifted in orange, green zones

[ad_1]

The Kerala government has decided to ease lockdown restrictions in parts of the state, effective Monday. The decision comes after the state administration managed to not just flatten but bend the curve of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

In some districts, even restaurants, shops, and public transport facilities will be allowed to operate, said state government officials. Kerala has classified the districts in the state under four different zones.

Red Zones

Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts are classified under the red zone. These zones denote high-risk districts and will be under complete lockdown till May 3, 2020. The borders of these districts and specific hotspots within them will remain sealed with a maximum of two entry/exit points for the supply of essential services. All kinds of social, political and religious gatherings also stand suspended in these districts.

Orange Zones

Districts under the Orange zone are further classified as Orange-A and Orange-B depending upon the impact of the crisis in those areas.

Orange-A zone, which includes Eranakulam, Pathanamthitta and Kollam, shall remain under lockdown until April 24.

Orange B-zone consisting of Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad districts, will be allowed to observe a partial relaxation of the lockdown starting Monday. In Orange-B zones, all health services including AYUSH shall remain functional. Farming, procurement of agricultural products, fisheries, plantations, and animal husbandry sectors shall be allowed to function with limited manpower. Restaurants will be allowed to operate till 7 pm and parcel counters till 8 pm.

The movement of private vehicles will be regulated through the odd-even scheme on alternate days. Vehicles with registration ending in odd numbers shall be allowed on the roads on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Those ending in even numbers shall be allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. All vehicles which are not part of non-essential services will not be allowed on the roads on Sunday. However, the odd-even scheme will not be applicable to vehicles being driven by lady drivers.

Green Zones

In the Green Zone, which includes Kottayam and Idukki, lockdown restrictions will be further eased. More commercial establishments will be allowed to function. Auto rickshaws will be allowed to operate locally with not more than two passengers each.
