Implementing all orders: Mamata govt tells Centre amid clash over teams visiting Bengal

[ad_1]

As the Centre accused Mamata government of showing non-cooperation towards the central teams visiting West Bengal, the state has written a letter to MHA assuring the teams of all cooperation in assessing the coronavirus situation.

In a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, West Bengal Chief Secretary Rajiv Sinha has said, “It is not a fact that central teams have not been provided any cooperation by West Bengal.”

The West Bengal chief secretary further assured the Centre that the two inter-ministerial central teams (IMCT) have visited different parts of the state are being given full support by the state.

In the letter addressed to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Sinha has also said, “This is to convey my highest assurances for implementation of central government order and Disaster Management Act as well as the directions of the Honb’le Supreme Court.”

The letter also said, “IMCT had arrived without any prior consultation with us and, therefore, there was neither such opportunity to provide any logistic support as envisaged in the order dated 19th April 2020 nor the team asked for any help.”

A bitter war of words erupted between the Mamata Banerjee government and Centre over the two IMCTs visiting the Bengal to look at the coronavirus situation and implementation of the lockdown in different districts.

Mamata Banerjee had shot a letter to Prime Minister Modi on Monday asking why was she not informed before the two central teams landed in Bengal and began inspection on ground.

While the two teams landed in Kolkata on Monday morning, Mamata Banerjee said she was only informed over a phone call in the afternoon.

The two teams were sent by the MHA under the Disaster Management Act to visit Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

The Centre on Tuesday directed the West Bengal government not to obstruct the work of two central teams visiting the state.

MHA also said that the Mamata government was not cooperating with the central teams.
