Amid the nationwide lockdown in the wake of the rising Covid-19 cases, the Lucknow Police, with the help of a local NGO, fed monkeys and stray animals to help them survive the shutdown.
Additional DCP (ADCP), Central Lucknow, Chiranjiv Sinha along with other cops and people associated with the local NGOs fed animals and birds at the Gomti Nagar area in the state capital.
The ADCP and his team fed bananas to the monkeys and the stray dogs were provided dog food on the Gomti bridge.
Speaking to India Today TV, ADCP Chiranjiv Sinha said, “It is very important to feed the stray animals during the lockdown period. We have established contact with the local NGOs and animal welfare organisations to ensure that the stray animals, dogs, and cats can be fed. We are happy that since the lockdown has come into effect, many NGOs have come forward and have extended their support in feeding the animals.”
“A similar drive to feed the animals is being conducted across Lucknow and the police are also trying to extend the best possible support,” Chiranjiv Sinha said.
Social worker TP Havelia said, “With the help of the police, we are feeding the animals at multiple places in the city. The help which is coming from the administration has given us more motivation.”
