At a time when at least 25 journalists tested positive for novel coronavirus of Covid-29, two Tamil Nadu minister allegedly held press briefing in Madurai, flouting social-distancing norms amid the pandemic.
On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar, who was inspecting an area in Madurai along with Madurai police commissioner, district collector and other revenue officials, held a press meet without maintaining any social distance.
The government officials were inspecting the Bazaar Street and several journalists were tagged along for the same.
The press briefing was held after several requests were made by media personnel in the state to the chief minister and health minister/secretary to conduct press conference through video conferencing.
Several journalists in the state have tested positive for the novel coronavirus and yet ministers and officials in districts broke the lockdown rules and conducted such press meets without following any social-distancing norms.
In another incident reported in Madurai on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Minister Sellur Raju had also allegedly violated social distancing norms while inaugurating the special scheme to provide essential commodities to the people in Madurai. The minister was seen holding a press briefing without maintaining social distancing.
The inauguration venue, PDS shop, was filled with AIADMK functionaries and the general public.
